Water Damage Restoration
Sigma Custom Homes Inc. has extensive experience with restoring and renovating homes from water-related damages. Since the Alberta 2013 floods, water damage restoration has become one of our most common projects. Of course, it does not take a natural disaster to damage one's home; a leaky pipe or a structural defect in the home will do it, too. Note that in many cases we will be able to restore your home without the need for a costly renovation. Addressing water-related damages quickly is the best strategy to prevent further damage to your property, and avoid more costly renovations down the line. why water damage matters
Even small amounts of water seepage can significantly damage your property. The video to your left (above if using mobile) shows what water damage can do to a wall that has not been properly waterproofed. In this case, cracks in the home's stucco, coupled with poor waterproofing, allowed rainfall to seep through; rotting the wood from the inside. Without removing the stucco few would be able to see this problem from the outside.
Water damage when caught and addressed early is usually easy and relatively inexpensive to repair. If unaddressed, the damage spreads.
Mould (A Key Indicator of Water Damage)
One of the most common signs of water damage is the build up of mould and mildew. Mould is a type of fungus (ranging in various colors from red to blue) that grows just about anywhere there is moisture. Mildew, a similar type of fungus (appears as a white powder), and is also common in homes. Mold and mildew not only damages your property by eating organic material (like your drywall), it will also begin to smell bad if untreated, and most importantly, may pose serious health risks.
Structural Damages
Poor waterproofing may allow water to find its way inside, resulting in various damages to the structure of your home. Water-related damages may also compromise the structural integrity of your home by weakening structural supports, sinking and cracking foundations (see video below), exposing your home to the elements, etc.
Remember: water damage when caught and addressed early is usually easy and relatively inexpensive to repair.
